Materials & Care

Materials

Care

When washing, use a gentle cycle, with COOL water. If your washing machine does not have a COOL setting, use the COLD setting. Close all zippers and make sure pockets are empty.

We recommend using a free and clear detergent or a detergent specifically designed for technical garments. Traditional detergents, particularly powdered detergents can leave residues that can negatively affect the performance of your garment. Avoid all products with fabric softeners or bleach. Grangers Performance Wash is a great option.

Avoid excessive heat. Seam tape can fall apart in a dryer, and it is not a pretty sight. Excessive heat (even a car dashboard in the summer) can also cause multi-layered waterproof fabrics to delaminate.

I've bought this product twice now and feel dumb (shame on me). They start off so well, but after say just a few months, they completely lose their waterproofing. I've done the wash/waterproof spray with the exact products shower pass recommends--doesn't work. Whatever waterproofing membrane they have used here is just not very good. Don't make the mistake of thinking expensive=high quality here.

Well built, nice fit.
My only issue (or suggestion) is that the Velcro strap at the bottom of pant leg does not have enough of the mating "loop" (fuzzy stuff) to tighten around my skinny ankles to keep the pant leg away from the chain. I might need to add a bit more somehow or use a rubber band.

Very easy to slip on and off.

Surprisingly light and comfortable for heavy-duty rain pants. Just wore them in a downpour and they were flawless. Appreciate the reinforced seat.

Great fit. Medium - 5' 9", 160, 33 waist. Cut the wind nicely - have not had the chance to use them in the rain yet. Lots of reflective material on pants. Not sure how much I will use the velcro ankle ties as I prefer my own ankle strap. Over - I really like them. I did get them 40% off which is a great deal. Cheers from Victoria BC

Get these before the tariffs kick in! I've only worn them out for a couple of rides but so far I really like the fit and features. All the visibility features are a real plus given my jacket doesn't have to much in terms of color or reflectivity.

Not the best but not the worst. Kept me dry in heavy rain without causing me to get hot and sweat. The thing is these pants are not tuff or durable. Second time wearing them they ripped. Also if you have big legs and a small waist they don't fit very well.

The pants feel good and fit over my work clothes nicely

Rain and snow are forcast for Tuesday's bicycle commute! Until now, I have been very impressed with the seam sealing and overall good looks and quality feel while cycling to and from the university (in the dark) and cycling long miles out on Antelope Island in the Great Salt Lake with the bison! Fit is great and shipping was fast.

One key note: I'd hope to use these pants for downhill skiing But the butt has a prominent saddle reinforcement *visible. Snooty types would not approve.

These pants have worked great for me commuting year around in the PNW. I highly recommend them and the team at Showers Pass.

I ordered the Refuge pants after my OR Helium pants ripped on a ride, the Helium pants were nice and light but lacking durability.

The Refuge pants felt great as soon as I took them out of the packaging. I wore them for an overnight bikepacking trip and had a lot of rain but the pants performed really well, so much so that I ordered the Refuge jacket when I got home.

Durable, dependable rain gear, worth the premium price in my opinion.

someone made a mistake and ordered or sent the wrong size.
I need to return it

Runs very long. Also a bit baggy even for an "over other clothes" design. Otherwise seems good.

Performs exactly as advertised as a "2-fer" jacket for windy & rainy conditions while road-biking or skiing in the low 30s. The venting allows for +/- 10 degree adjustment to avoid overheating. Follow the chest-measurement chart for accurate jacket sizing. Overall, superb performance matched by a great look and quality construction.

I love these pants for biking and adventuring around the forest. They have held up longer than any other brand. Also, fixing them with Gear Aid is a breeze. I'm on my second pair after the first pair has legit gone through many bike rides and patches of thick brush. Thanks SP for making great, reliable, and breathable gear that kicks any rain storm in the teeth.

I was holding off on this review until the pants got a proper workout. I can now say unequivocally that they are amazing. I bought them for motorcycling. On a recent multi-day trip they kept me dry in some extended, extreme, and extremely wet conditions including a busy Interstate and the Trans-Canada, with several hours in the rain all told. Marvelous. I normally wear a medium in sweat pants / athletic shorts but I bought the large pants and they are perfect for layering (it was cold, and I wore them over heavy denim and long underwear). Length great when seated on the bike in terms of covering the tops of my boots; high waist. I am 5'11 and 170 lbs, and wear 32, 33 or 34 in jeans and other pants.

Very happy with my purchase for now.
Used the pants already 3-4 times under low to moderate rain for around 30-40 minutes each time and no water passed them.
Also surprised by their warmth.
Only cons, I would have liked them more tight - they are very loose, even wearing other pants underneath.

They fit and they keep my husband dry and bonus they're not black

I bought a pair of these pants for my daily commute in Vancouver. They saw all kinds of rain, and kept me completely dry and the fit was great. I washed them with the suggested detergents and treated them with the suggested product on a regular basis. After two season of commuting, the fabric has now lost all of its water proofing, and isn't even water repellent anymore. It will soak through even in the lightest of showers. I was told that this is to be 'expected' by Showers Pass customer service who offered me a small discount on a new pair if I desired.
Again, these pants were fantastic for a couple of seasons, but the longevity just isn't there for a $300+ product. I will be going with something of the Gore-Tex variety for my next pants.

I thought that these Refuge pants would keep me dry for long rides, however, they start to wet through around the 1 hour mark in typical Vancouver winter rains. If I wear a synthetic base layer, they are OK -- I still feel the damp, but not so much that it is cold. Still looking for something that is truly waterproof.

These pants are Awesome! The fit and quality are superb and I know I will get many years service out of them.Get the 4 point suspenders with them for the perfect set of gear for the waist down!

I love my 2 purchases, however I would have liked the jacket to be provided with more pockets on the front. as for the pants, nothing to say. As for the jacket, I plan to use it when the temperature is 10 degrees cesium and below.

I'm 6'2" and the x-large are a perfect length. Have worn them three times as an outer layer in -5C slush and rain...stayed dry and warm.

Recently purchased a new pair to replace existing Refuge pant. The older pant lasted 3 years, which is practically 3 times as long as the competitors model used previously. The new version has a significantly more robust seat reinforcement which is vital for bike use. I commute daily in a rainy climate. This is a high quality, well fitting pant. I highly recommend them irrespective of the high price point.

I had been looking at these pants for a while, finally decided to order them at showerspass.ca with 20% off Boxing Day sale. I was concerned about customs/duty/tax issues shipping from US to Canada, (I had been burned recently with an REI purchase).

Turns out that Showers Pass uses a Canada friendly purchase/shipping service: prices are in CAD and GST & PST collected at time of purchase. Parcel cleared customs in hours, delivered to Vancouver in days.

I love the pants, have tested them in west coast wind & rain, comfortable and dry. The leg vents work great in milder temperatures.

I use this pant everyday to go to work over my winter layer clothes. I travel in very bad weather like rain, snow and really bad road condition and i'm very happy of this pant. I go with pant because i was very impress of the quality of the refugee coat and the pant is the same level of quality. I'm not afraid to go in -30 C and i know the outher layer of my suit are made to resist pratically anything, wet or dry. I will surely recommand this pant to anybody. It also fit my big bike boots from 45Nrth.

Sturdy, durable, yet very confortable. Great to use as an outer layer on long winter rides.

Perfect for a biking ride in a rainy day, they are completely waterproof and they are also great wind breaker at the autumn and winter seasons times.
Great job Showers Pass!
